2D Class Election 2017
We had an exciting event take place this month in 2D! Our class took part in the democratic process and elected a class president. Each student was asked to write a campaign speech on why he or she should be elected class president. After each child shared their speeches, our class wrote their top 3 presidential choices on a slip of paper to represent our primary election. After our primary, our class had three presidential candidates...Lila, Jaidon, and Maddox. The candidates had a week to campaign (note the posters!). On Thursday, November 16, each member of 2D became a registered voter and came to the voting booth to cast their votes. We had a tight race between two of the candidates (my heart was even racing just counting the votes!). Winning by one vote was our new class president, Jaidon!
It was so exciting to learn about how our country elects its leaders. I would encourage you to talk about the process with your child as well. We learned this week that EVERY vote counts!

Balloons over Broadway stem activity
Our class read the story Balloons Over Broadway, a biography about a man named Tony Sarg who invented the floats for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He started out as a marionette man, creating and entertaining with these fun puppets. He was hired by Macy's in 1924 to design floats for their parade, which they decided to conduct to celebrate immigrants' cultural holidays. The floats transformed each year until 1928, which is the first year the balloons as we know them made their appearance in the parade.
The students were challenged with the task of making their own marionettes. Their materials were string, a dixie cup, turkey pieces, tape, and a popsicle stick. They needed to create a marionette that would articulate well. We had many different ideas! These engineers are excited to try some of their other ideas at home!

Tasty Tuesday--Helpful Squanto Snacks
Today we planted corn like Squanto taught the Pilgrims to do. When the oak tree bud is as big as a mouse's ear, dig a hole. Put four pieces of corn in the hole, and add 2 rotting fish. Cover with dirt. Well...maybe we didn't plant just like the Pilgrims!
